We analyze the interaction between mesons consisting of one heavy and one light valence quark or of two light valence quarks within four-dimensional lattice QCD. For this purpose we extend a method to extract potentials from a quantum field theory. It was developed for three-dimensional QED [1] and starts from the full correlation function of the corresponding two-particle system. We obtain attractive potentials of short range between the heavy-light mesons. This resembles a KK potential that was calculated via inverse scattering theory [2]. Results from current studies of a system of two light mesons will also be compared to calculations from inverse scattering theory.
