In this paper, an external semiconductor laser cavity of the Littrow type has been constructed according to the futuristic demands of the optical telecommunication systems. In this experimental procedure, the following design parameters have been taken into account: current and temperature stability, laser modes stability in short and long term and high degree of tunability, optimisation of both the emitted optical power and the associated operating wavelength.
Moreover, the following set of experimental measurements have been already started: system’s thermal noise, signal’s transmitting information rate, bit error rate and involved types of interferences. Details of the system’s design principles and its usage in the optical telecommunication systems will be discussed.
