The magnetism of UHV-sputtered (111)-textured Fe films, separated by CeH2, has been studied with the magneto-optic Kerr effect in the longitudinal configuration. VSM-studies, susceptibility measurements and Mössbauer spectroscopy on samples with ∼30 couples have shown a thermally driven reorientation of the magnetisation from perpendicular to in plane [1]. MOKE experiments reveal that the reorientation temperature TR decreases with the number of bilayers. This can be ascribed to a reduced magnetostatic contribution to the anisotropy energy. At the reorientation transition, multiple peaks in the differentiated Kerr-signal occur. In a first interpretation these peaks could be identified with a different magnetic anisotropy energy of the outer and inner Fe-layers. In addition Mössbauer spectroscopy on samples with a reduced pair number shows that the mangetisation direction below TR is not perfectly out-of-plane. At the reorientation transition it turns gradually in correspondence with the MOKE-measurements.
