Field line and particle transport in perturbed magnetic thermonuclear confinement systems — •M. Eberhard1 and A. Montvai21Universität Düsseldorf — 2FOM Instituut voor Plasmafysika ’Rijnhuizen’

In general particle and energy transport in perturbed magnetic confinement systems is modeled with field line systems. This is appropriate for unperturbed systems (conservation laws), but in perturbed chaotic field structures the precise correlation of this field line and particle transport has yet to be analyzed.

Based on an exact symplectic method of integration a high confidence picture of field line transport is presented. In this field structure transport properties of field line motion are numerically calculated and compared to analytical models.

In the same configuration test particle transport is also evaluated and compared to the results of the field line simulation. It is shown, that these results are in qualitative and quantitative disagreement with the well-known results based on the usual assumptions of Gaussian and Brownian statistics.

In particular, differences between diffusive approximation and our results are presented. Furthermore, strong dependence of the resulting drift fields and generated transport coefficients are shown on the statistical properties of the input magnetic field structure.
