Entanglement as an extensive quantity — •Jens Eisert and Martin Wilkens — Institut für Physik, Universität Potsdam, 14469 Potsdam, Germany
Entanglement is the key structure element of quantum mechanics that makes quantum information theory different from its classical analogue. The quantification of entanglement of mixed quantum states is however difficult. An important property of a ’good’ measure of entanglement is its additivity: the entanglement present in a product state should be given by the sum of the entanglement contained in its parts. We discuss in detail the additivity properties of entanglement measures.
