Fine structures of the electronic transport in icosahedral and decagonal quasicrystals — •Carlos Landauro-Saenz — Institut für Physik, Technische Universität, 09107 Chemnitz

We examine theoretically the strong dependence of the electronic

transport on the electron energy and on the transport direction.

In view of the spectral fine structures we analyze the role of

MacKay icosahedra in AlMn(Si) approximants. Anisotropies are

treated with reference to decagonal AlCuCo phases. We calculate

conductivities from the Kubo-Greenwood formula. Two approaches

are employed: supercell LMTO-ASA and the TB-LMTO with recursion

method and filter technique. The conductances of model samples

are obtained with high spectral and orientational resolutions

by means of the Büttiker formula. Our results indicalte that

the electronic transport depends critically on both the

chemical decoration and the orientation order of the clusters.

Close to the Fermi energy the conductances of models with

icosahedral clusters switch on the 10 meV scale between

metallic and non-metallic.
