Rotation from antiferromagnetism to superconductivity in a “projected” SO(5) symmetry — •Enrico Arrigoni1, Werner Hanke1, and Shoucheng Zhang21Institut für Theoretische Physik Universität Würzburg, D-97074 Würzburg — 2Department of Physics, Stanford University; Stanford, CA 94305 USA

The physics of the Hubbard gap and of the SO(5) theory of high-Tc superconductivity [1,2] can be combined by introducing a “projected” SO(5) symmetry whereby the symmetry group is restricted to the hole-doped states. We show that a superconducting state exists as a SO(5) rotation from the antiferromagnetic phase also for this projected symmetry. A bosonic model with interacting magnons and hole pairs is introduced for which a projected SO(5) symmetry is exactly realized. We discuss the nature of the transition form antiferromagnetism to superconductivity as the system is doped, the implications for effective SO(5) nonlinear-σ-models theories and for renormalization-group calculations [3].
