Adsorption and desorption measurements of hydrogen on technical surfaces — •Berthold Jenninger1, Yoshio Saito2, and Gilles Moulard11CERN - European Organisation for Nuclear Reasearch, Geneva, Switzerland — 2KEK - National Laboratory for High Energy Physics, Tsukuba, Japan

In the context of the development of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, adsorption isotherms and thermal desorption spectra of hydrogen on technical surfaces have been measured at, and close to liquid helium temperatures. So far, measurements have been carried out on a copper coated stainless steel tube, an anodised aluminium tube and on a NEG coated stainless steel tube (NEG material: TiZrV). With the related studies it is aimed to clarify to which extent the surface characteristics such as roughness, cleaning and baking, affects the amount and energy of physisorbed hydrogen molecules and, concerning the NEG, whether chemisorption occurs at these low temperatures.
