Numerical Study of Asymptotic Properties of Isolated Systems — •Marsha Weaver — Max -Planck- Institut für Gravitationsphysik Am Mühlenberg 1 14476 Golm

The question of how to model an isolated system in General Relativity is not yet completely answered. One approach, proposed by Penrose, is to study spacetimes which are 1) conformally related to a spacetime satisfying Einstein’s equation, and 2) regular at null “infinity”, which is at finite distance in the conformal spacetime. Helmut Friedrich has formulated field equations in the conformal spacetime which are equivalent to Einstein’s equation in the original spacetime. Peter Hübner has developed computer code for numerical simulation of the conformal field equations. This is a report of recent work to obtain physically relevant information at future null infinity from the numerical simulations, and to begin exploration of the space of initial data.
