Semiclassical Analysis of Non-Perturbative Quantum General Relativity — •Thomas Thiemann — Albert-Einstein-Institut, MPI f. Gravitationsphysik, Am Mühlenberg 1, 14476 Golm

Non-perturbative, Lorentzian Quantum General Relativity in four spacetime dimensions has matured over the past decade to a promising candidate theory for quantum gravity. Among the most important results are the existence of a mathematically rigorous formulation, the emergence of a discrete Planck scale structure, the existence of new diffeomorphism invariant regularization techniques for operators and a rigorous analysis of quantum black holes. To date, the main focus has been on the development of the mathematical apparatus. After a review of the above developments we present a new framework which aims at making contact with the known physics of the standard model. We report on progress in the following directions : Recovery of a smooth metric at low energy from the fundamental distributional quantum metric, the effective description of the Hamiltonian of the standard model coupled to quantum gravity and possible corrections of the physics of the standard model due to quantum gravity effects.
