A Compton polarimeter for Parametric X-radiation — •Jan They, Gerd Buschhorn, Rainer Kotthaus, and Dmitry Pugachev — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik (Werner-Heisenberg-Institut), München

A compact Compton polarimeter to be used for energy resolved linear polarization analysis of large angle Parametric X-radiation (PXR) in the energy range below 10 keV has been designed, built and calibrated with monochromatized synchrotron radiation. The instrument employs 4 thermoelectrically cooled silicon drift detectors to determine the linear polarization vector by measuring the azimuthal modulation of X-rays scattered off a beryllium conus. The analyzing power is close to 100 % as expected for a scattering angle of 90 degrees. The energy resolution at 5.9 keV is 160 eV (fwhm) corresponding to an electronic noise contribution of 10 electrons (rms).
