The Influence of Oxygen on Yttrium Nanoparticles — •G. Bour, M. Heise, M. Gartz, and U. Kreibig — I. Phys. Inst. 1A, RWTH Aachen, 52056 Aachen

Yttrium nanoparticles show distinct phase changes under the presence of atomic hydrogen, similar to bulk material, as demonstrated in the preceding talk from optical and electrical experiments. There are indications, that the addition of oxygen induces the formation of yttrium oxide shells around each particle. However, recent spectroscopy experiments suggest, that the presence of oxygen does not inhibit those hydrogen driven phase changes in nanoparticles. Electrical and optical measurement were used to investigate this process of cluster oxidation.
