Rayleigh scattering and resdistribution of radiation due to electron-atom collisions in the singlet and triplet system of HeI — •P. Drepper, S. Maurmann, S. Ferri, and H.-J. Kunze — Institut für Experimentalphysik V, Ruhr-Universität Bochum

Rayleigh scattering and redistribution of radiation is observed by using a dye laser pumped by an excimer laser for two singlet and three triplet transitions in a helium plasma, which is produced in a magnetic multipole plasma source. Running the plasma source continuously produces a plasma with electron temperatures 2 eV ≤ kTe ≤ 7 eV and electron densities 1011 cm−3ne≤ 1013 cm−3 at helium filling pressures 1 Pa ≤ pg ≤ 5 Pa. Redistribution measurements provide information about electron-atom interactions in the plasma. We present here results of redistribution measurements as well as a comparison with theory; good agreement is found.
