Determination of plastic strain and texture below the grain scale — •D. Raabe, M. Sachtleber, J.-C. Kuo, and S. Zaefferer — Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung, Max-Planck-Str. 1, 40237 Düsseldorf

Polycrystalline aluminium samples with a quasi-2D single layer of coarse grains are plastically deformed in a channel die plane strain set-up at room temperature and low strain rate. The microtexture of the specimens is determined via EBSP analysis. The corresponding plastic microstrains at the sample surface are determined by measurement of the 3D plastic displacement fields. For this purpose digital pixel images of the sample surface are taken at the beginning and after each deformation step. The in-plane displacement field is derived from them by applying a digital image analysis method based on stochastic pattern recognition to the data before and after straining. Strain accumulation and orientation changes during compression are quantitatively documented using surface maps of the microtexture and of the corresponding micromechanical data.
