Modeling the temperature dependent electronic transport parameters of Al-TM quasicrystals — •Carlos Landauro and Heinrich Solbrig — Institut für Physik, Technische Universität Chemnitz, 09107 Chemnitz, Germany

We investigate theoretically the electronic transport coefficients of Al-Cu-X (X=Fe,Ru) icosahedral phases. The ab-initio results (LMTO-ASA, Kubo-Greenwood formula) of the spectral resistivity are modeled by means of a wide and a narrow Lorentzian. The first one represents what is common with amorphous phases whereas the latter one is specific for the approximant. The model is generalized to describe the electronic properties of bulk quasicrystals. The resulting spectral conductivity explains consistently the temperature dependences of the conductivity, the thermoelectric power, the Hall coefficient, the Thermalconductivity, and the Lorenz number. Moreover the Matthiessen rule and the Wiedemann-Franz law are analyzed. The possibility to apply these materials as thermoelectric materials is also discussed.
