An Experimental Station for Neutron-Scattering at Very High Magnetic Fields ( 40 T) — •Michael Steiner — Hahn-Meitner-Institut Berlin, Glienicker Str. 100, D-14109

The Hahn-Meitner-Institut has made great efforts to offer the users of its neutron scattering facilities (BENSC) outstanding experimental conditions. This comprises not only excellent instrumentations, but sample environement as well: our possibilities range from experiments at ultralow temperatures to experiments at 17.5 T. The combination of excellent instruments with these extreme conditions constitutes a major part of the BENSC profile. Typical examples of corresponding experiments are the determination of the ordering of the nuclear spins in Ag at sub-nano-Kelvin temperatures and the observation of antiferromagnetic correlations in the core of a fluxline in HTCSC at 15 T. To further extend the range of magnetic fields to be used at a neutron instrument we have proposed an installation for up to 40 T continous magnetic field arround neutron scattering instruments especially designed to make optimum use of the neutrons available at such an experimental station. We will discuss the technical concept and give some examples of possible experiments.
