Nanowires from Single Synthetic Polyelectrolyte Molecules via Metallization — •Ganna Gorodyska, Anton Kiriy, Sergiy Minko, and Manfred Stamm — Institut fuer Polymerforschung Dresden e.V., Hohe Strasse 6, 01069 Dresden
By a simple chemical route we are able to fabricate metallic nanowires of diameter 2-5 nanometers and length ranging from 50 nm to 800 nm. The preparation is based on the deposition of metallic clusters on single synthetic polyelectrolyte molecules adsorbed on Si-wafers from water solution. Length and diameter of nanowires are determined by length and diameter of underlying polymer chains. Nanowires longer than 50 nm are found to resemble worm-like conformations with persistent length of about 20 nm end mean square end-to-end distance proportional to degree of polymerization. The described method offers the possibility to fabricate nanoparticles of dedicated shape to be used for functional nanodevices.
