We present the combinatorial investigation of
multi-layer organic solar cells with a systematic thickness
variation of different layers. An array of 8x8 diodes is produced
on a square ITO-glass substrate under high vacuum conditions. Two
gradients of two different materials (e.g. CuPc, ST1, TiO2)
are evaporated onto the substrate. Evaporation conditions for all
different layers including the 64 electrodes are kept constant,
thus granting comparability of the different diodes. The diodes
are simultaneously tested for long-term stability. The development
of the IV-curves is followed with and without illumination and
optimum film thickness combinations can be determined. Electronic
and thermal/photonic degradation can be distinguished by applying
different loads to the solar cells. Temperature control as well as
IR-filtering is achieved by a water filter. Homogeneous solar
illumination is imitated by four OSRAM Ultra-Vitalux bulbs.
