Long Baseline Planar Hardware Gradiometer with HTS rf-SQUIDs — •Grigory Panaitov, Yi Zhang, Hans-Joachim Krause, Jurgen Schubert und Marko Banzet — Forschungszentrum Juelich GmbH, 52425 Juelich

Superconducting Quntum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) are known as the most sensitive instruments to measure weak magnetic signals. In order to compensate the large environmental noise, a wire-wound gradiometric pick-up coil coupled to the SQUID is spread used. Due to the lack of high-quality high temperature superconducting (HTS) wires, HTS SQUIDs are usually operated in the configuration of an electronic gradiometer. Recently, a hardware planar gradiometer with a dc-SQUID and an asymmetric planar flux transformer was demonstrated by Dantsker et al. /APL, 71, 1712 (1997)/. We developed an asymmetric thin film gradiometer based on an HTS rf-SQUID. Advantage of the technique is that gradiometers with very long baseline can be realised. The performance of a 13mm baseline rf-SQUID gradiometer will be presented. We will discuss also the possibilities to optimise the gradiometer design and the development of longer baseline devices.
