Full Counting Statistics in Mesoscopic Transport — •Wolfgang Belzig — Departement für Physik, Universität Basel, Schweiz

The complete information about a charge transfer process is contained in the so called full counting statistics. We present a general theoretical approach [1,2,3], which allows to calculate the probability Pt(N) that N charges have passed a conductor in a time interval t. This amounts to a simultaneous calculations of all current correlators (conductance, noise, and all higher correlators). In certain cases the problem of obtaining the full counting statistics is intimately related to a quantum measurement problem [2]. As concrete examples we discuss the statistics of several multi terminal structures with normal and superconducting terminals [3]. Agreement with experimental results for the shot noise is demonstrated.
