Design of the TESLA very Forward Calorimeter — •E. Kousnetzova1, A. Afanasiev2, V. Drugakov2, W. Lohmann1, and A. Stahl11DESY — 2Univ. Minsk

The forward region of the TESLA detector is a particularly challenging area for instrumentation. A large amount beamstrahlung photon conversions, several TeV per bunch crossing, are scattered into this region. The measurement of the beamstrahlung allows fast beam diagnostics. On top of the deposition from beamstrahlung, single hard electrons have to be measured or at least vetoed. The latter is important since events with high energetic electrons near the beampipe are a serious background in many search channels. Outside the area affected by beamstrahlung the the region is completed by a luminosity measurment device. Design options based on a diamond tungsten sandwich and on heavy crystals are simulated and results on the expected performance are presented.
