Coercivity Analysis of textured Nd2Fe14B Films — •Ullrich Hannemann, Sebastian Fähler, Bernhard Holzapfel, and Ludwig Schultz — IFW Dresden, Helmholtzstrasse 20, 01069 Dresden and SFB 463

The epitaxial growth of Nd2Fe14B films on Ta(110) buffer on single crystalline Al2O3 and MgO substrates leads together with the intrinsic magnetic properties of the phase to promising magnetic properties. We achieved a coercivity of 2 T with a very high remanence Jr = 0.97 Js (Js = saturation magnetisation) both measured along the easy magnetisation axis perpendicular to the film plane. For future applications highly textured films are needed on technically relevant substrates.

We used the pulsed laser deposition to grow Ta and Nd2Fe14B on amorphous SiN substrates. Due to the (110) growth of the Ta the Nd2Fe14B films exhibited an sharp out-of-plane texture and a coercivity of up to 1.3 T. For the high coercivities of the films deposition of surplus Nd is necessary which effectively decouples the Nd2Fe14B grains but reduces the saturation magnetisation. For further optimisation of the remanence films with decreasing Nd content were deposited and investigations of the coercivity mechanism and of the microstructure were performed.
