We present an accurate quantum treatment of alkali Rydberg states exposed to crossed electric and magnetic fields, motivated by ongoing experiments in Garching. Our calculations probe the parameter regime of overlapping resonances, with special emphasis devoted to possible signatures of Ericson fluctuations in the experimental photoionization cross sections. The theoretical/numerical approach relies on a combination of R-matrix theory (to account for the multielectron core), complex dilation (for an exact description of the continuum coupling), and a suitable basis set (such as to take optimal advantage of the fundamental symmetries of the atomic species).
