Quantum information technology by means of nonclassical light and atoms — •A. I. Lvovsky, Jonas Ries, S. A. Babichev, and Björn Brezger — Fakultät für Physik, Universität Konstanz, 78464

We report on our recent experiments in which we elaborate the basic building blocks for future linear optical quantum information processors. Based on the tools of synthesis and reconstruction of the single-photon optical state developed earlier, we implement more complex instruments of quantum information technology. In particular, we demonstrate generating quantum bits of an arbitrary value and qubit teleportation by means of a single photon. In a separate project, we develop an interface that would allow coherent transfer of quantum information carried by light into atoms and vice versa. This interface would allow, in particular, to store quantum information in atomic gases, thus providing a memory component required for any computation device.
