Generation of coherent VUV and XUV radiation with short laser pulses — •C. Reinhardt, A. Rühl, B. N. Chichkov, and B. Wellegehausen — Institut für Quantenoptik, Universität Hannover, Welfengarten 1, D-30167 Hannover, Germany

Nonlinear optics with short laser pulses is a powerful method for the generation of coherent radiation at short wavelengths. High conversion efficiencies are possible if the phase matching problem can be solved, which requires a careful balancing of the geometrical and dispersive mismatch from atoms and electrons [1]. We will present investigations on different processes like four wave difference frequency mixing and frequency tripling of 400 fs KrF laser pulses and high-order harmonic generation and parametric amplification with a 100 fs Ti:sapphire lasersystem. In case of the third harmonic from the KrF 248 nm laser radiation a conversion efficiency of 1.5 percent and an output energy of 100 µJ has recently been demonstrated [2].
