Latitudinal variations of the isotopic composition of atmospheric trace gases — •T. Warneke1, A. Schulz2, V. Velazco1, J. Notholt1, T. v.Clarmann3, T. Blumenstock3, and O. Schrems21Institut fuer Umweltphysik, Universitaet Bremen — 2Alfred Wegener Institut — 3Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe

The study of the isotopic composition of atmospheric trace gases provides information on the sources and sinks of each gas and helps to understand transport and chemical processes in the atmosphere. As an example, variabilities in the water isotopes can help to understand transport processes; the ozone fractionation allows to investigate its formation. High-resolution solar absorption spectra in the infrared were obtained at the ground in Spitzbergen, Bremen, Tenerife and during several cruises onboard the research vessel Polarstern on the Atlantic between 80N and 70S. In addition to the ground-based observations MIPAS/ENVISAT-satellite data are used. The suitability of the high resolution infrared spectroscopy to study the isotopic variability of trace gases is investigated and first results of the latitudinal variations are presented.
