The Airborne Multi AXis DOAS (AMAXDOAS) was successfully operated during a major SCIAMACHY-validation campaign in September 2002 reaching from the arctic to the tropics.
With four different viewing angles, two looking abowe and two below the aircraft, AMAXDOAS can distinguish between the tropospheric and the stratospheric columns for many trace gases e.g.: BrO, H2O, HCHO NO2, O3, SO2. One spectrum is taken every 30 sec; assuming a speed over ground of 220ml/h, this results in a horizontal resultion of 3.5 km.
The system was installed on the DLR-Falcon (D-CMET) together with the OLEX (lidar) and ASUR (microwave) instruments. We report on results of the southern track leading from Oberpfaffenhofen via Mallorca, Cameroon and Kenia to the Seychelles and back. Results for tropospheric NO2 and H2O will be presented.
