The recently proposed self consistent chiral SU(3) dynamics for antikaon propagation in cold nuclear matter [1] is applied to systems where an antikaon is bound by the Coulomb potential of a finite nucleus. Phenomenological analyses of the binding energies of such systems reveal that an attractive antikaon-nucleus potential is required to successfully describe the level shifts. This is in contrast to the repulsive antikaon-nucleon scattering length which dominates the extreme low-density behavior of the optical potential. Our studies reveal how the repulsion at the extreme surface of the nucleus gradually turns into attraction as the interior of the nucleus is reached. K-atom data constitute a sensitive probe of the in-medium properties of the hyperon Λ (1405) and Σ (1385) resonances which imply a strong energy and momentum dependence of the antikaon self energy in nuclear matter [2]. Taking into account non-local effects systematically we calculate the energy levels and widths parameters of K-atoms. A detailed comparison with available data and previous theoretical approaches will be given.
