Pairing in the crust of neutron stars — •Fernando Montani, Herbert Müther, and Armen Sedrakian — Institut für theoretische Physik der Universität Tübingen, Auf der Morgenstelle 14, 72076 Tübingen

Properties of nuclear matter at low densities (typically below one half of the nuclear matter saturation density) and large proton neutron asymmetries are studied using the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approach. The calculations are performed using local parametrizations of the effective NN interaction that are adjusted to results of solving the Bethe-Golstone equation for realistic interaction models. It is observed that configurations with nuclei, formed from a few protons and neutrons, embedded in a homogeneous sea of neutron matter are energetically favoured as compared to homogeneous matter. The pairing gap of neutron-neutron pairing is smaller in this case than in the homogeneous matter case.
