Investigations on Charge Exchange XUV-laser schemes — •V. A. Vorontsov1, I. F. Shaikhislamov2, M. Born1, B. N. Chichkov3, and B. Wellegehausen11Institut für Quantenoptik, Universität Hannover, Welfengarten 1, 30167 Hannover — 2Institute of Laser Physics, Novosibirsk — 3Laserzentrum Hannover e.V.

Charge-exchange pumping as possible mechanism for XUV-lasing is investigated. For basic studies the well-known reaction C4++HC3++H+ has been chosen. C4+ ions are produced by fs-laser ablation of a carbon target. The ablation plasma interacts with a pulsed gas jet close to the target. The experimental setup allows to study the process at high densities (above 1016 cm−3) of the particles which is necessary for XUV lasing purposes. Spectra of the plasma and time resolved studies of the emission from specific lines, with and without interacting gas, bear strong evidence for selective charge-exchange pumping. Close to the target, an increase of line intensities from C3+(n=3 to n=2) by more than 3 times is observed [1]. Of specific interest is the reaction C5++HC5+ (n=3) +H+. The emission of C5+ (3p-2s) at 18.2 nm is well known for recombination lasing [2]. Also in this case an enhancement of the line intensity is obtained. Attempts to measure gain by variation of the plasma length will be reported.
