Eta meson production in the reaction dd 4He η  — •Aleksandra Wrońska — IKP, FZ Jülich, Germany — Jagiellonian University, Cracow, Poland

The issue of η-nucleus quasi-bound states has drawn a lot of attention in recent years. A steep rise of the η-production amplitudes in the pd3He η and dd4He η processes is believed to be an indication into this direction. However, an advanced analysis aiming at the extraction of the η-nucleus s-wave scattering length requires precise information on angular distributions. For the pd3He η reaction, though some differential cross sections for higher Q values (Q>21 MeV) are available, there are still inconsistencies between various data sets on the total cross section close to threshold. Angular distributions for the 4He−η system have never been measured. Knowlegde of the development of higher partial waves would also cast some light on the η-production mechanism. η-meson production with 4He in the final state in dd collisions has been a part of the experimental program at the ANKE facility of COSY-Jülich. Measurements of total and differential cross sections at four excess energies have been performed. In this talk the experimental technique as well as the current status of the data analysis are presented.  supported by FZ Jülich and EU
