Data acquisition and event building with the KASCADE-Grande FADC system — •S. Over, V. Andrei, M. Brüggemann, P. Buchholz, C. Grupen, Y. Kolotaev, R. Lixandru, B. Schöfer, W. Walkowiak, and D. Zimmermann — Universität Siegen, Fachbereich Physik, 57068 Siegen

The KASCADE experiment at the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe has been extended by 37 detector stations of the former EAS-Top experiment to be sensitive to energies up to 1018 eV. KASCADE and the new Grande extension form the KASCADE-Grande experiment. To improve the quality of the data taken by the Grande array, a new Flash ADC based data acquistion system is presently being developed. The signals of each of the 37 detector stations will be digitized and transmitted via an optical link to the Grande DAQ station. Approx. 90,000 single events per second will be transferred to and temporarily stored in the memories of PCs. The data acquisition software will search for coincidences and will also accept triggers of other KASCADE components, to build air shower events. The resulting data rate is in the order of a few air shower events per second, which will be sent to the central DAQ of KASCADE-Grande.
