An alternative method of image analysis for the MAGIC telescope — •Daniel Mazin and Wolfgang Wittek — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik (Werner-Heisenberg-Institut), Föhringer Ring 6, 80805 München

The new imaging Cherenkov telescopes such as MAGIC use very fine-grained cameras, which allow to obtain more information about the atmospheric shower development. A method of image analysis, alternative to that of the Hillas analysis, will be presented here. This method uses a two-dimensional function to fit the images of atmospheric showers in the camera. The fitted parameters and the quality of the fit then are used for the gamma-hadron separation as well as for the energy estimation of the primary particle. First results of this method will also be presented.
