Dual pulse femtosecond laser induced breakdown spectroscopy — •Tobias Witting1,2, Makis Bakarezos2, Demetrios Anglos2, and Costas Fotakis21Physikalisches Institut, Wesftälische Wilhelms-Universität, Münster, Germany — 2Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser, Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas, Heraklion, Greece

A XeCl pumped, frequency doubled distributed feedback dye laser system with a KrF amplifier providing 450 fs pulses at 248 nm was used to generate a plasma from different metal targets (Al, Mg, Cu) under ambient and high-vacuum conditions. The optical emission from the plasma was monitored by an imaging spectrograph equipped with an i-CCD detection system. Plasma temperature and degree of ionization determined from the LIBS spectra were monitored on an ultrafast timescale by means of double pulse sequences with varying pulse energy ratios and time delays. Besides an overall intensification of the optical emission an enhancement of ionization was observed.
