The triiodide complex in aqueous solution is an exemplary candidate for studying reaction dynamics of a molecular system in the liquid environment. Here we report the characteristic electron binding energies of the I3 complex (I4d and I5p) as inferred from photoemission. Specifically, we present photoemission studies of aqueous iodide species including I, obtained from aqueous NaI solution, I3 and higher complexes, the latter ones being prepared from I2 dissolved in aqueous NaI solution. Variation of both the I and the I2 concentrations enables the identification of the respective emission features (by their electron binding energies), and hence allows us to quantitatively follow the evolution of the relative intensities in accordance with the equilibrium of complex formation: I + I2I3 . The experiments were performed at the MBI undulator beamline at BESSY in the 50-120 eV photon energy range, using a 6 µm diameter liquid jet.
