Electron Acceleration at Shocks in the Reconnection Outflow Region During Flares — •Gottfried Mann, Henry Aurass, and Alexander Warmuth — Astrophysikalisches Institut Potsdam, An der Sternwarte 16, D-14482 Potsdam

In the solar corona magnetic field energy is suddenly released by magnetic reconnection during flares. Hot jets appear in the outflow region of the reconnection site. If the jets penetrate into the surrounding coronal plasma they are decelerated, so that standing shocks are established there. At these shocks electrons can be accelerated up to high energies. If they travel along magnetic field lines towards the denser chromosphere, they can emit X-ray radiation via bremsstrahlung. A solar event, at which radio signatures of the standing shocks in the reconnection outflow region and a simultaneous enhancement of hard X-ray fluxes has been observed by the RHESSI satellite and the radiospectralpolarimeter of the Astrophysikalische Institut Potsdam, will be presented and compared with theoretically calculated electron fluxes supporting the hypothesis of shock accelerated electrons.
