Time resolved vibrational spectroscopy is a suitable technique to provide insight in dynamic processes in molecular systems on the femtosecond to nanosecond time scale. Intense femtosecond mid-IR pulses are commonly generated by combination of a two stage near-IR optical parametric amplifier (OPA) with difference frequency mixing (DFM) [1]. In our approach we combine a standard NOPA (noncollinear optical parametric amplifier) design [2] with an OPA stage and DFG. This approach uses the advantages of the NOPA design as there are short pulse generation, light pulses in the visible for optimisation and easy tunability for mid-IR pulse generation in the range from 1000 to 3000 cm−1 . Applications of this design for the investigation of ultrafast molecular processes are presented.
