Noise analysis of a kilometer-scale interferometric gravitation-wave detector — •Joshua Smith — Max-Planck-Institut fuer Gravitationsphysik (Albert-Einstein-Institut) und Universitaet Hannover, Callinstr 38, D-30167 Hannover, Germany

GEO 600 is a kilometer-scale Michelson interferometer designed to detect relative differential length changes of its two arms, caused for example by gravitational waves, to a precision of order 10−22. At this level, there exists a myriad of noises, both fundamental and technical that will appear at the detector output as spurious signal, thus masking the effects of gravitational waves. This talk will focus on the process of identifying these noise sources, understanding their propagation through the interferometer and its associated control loops, and minimizing their influence on the detector output.
