Study of the sagitta of muon tracks in a cosmic ray measurement facility for ATLAS muon chambers — •Matthias Schott, Matthias Obermaier, and Günter Duckeck — Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Am Coulombwall 1, D-85748 Garching b. München

The precision of the reconstruction of the sagitta of tracks in a magnetic field is directly related to the accuracy of the momenetum measurement. We study the sagitta of tracks in a cosmic ray measurement facility used to commission and calibrate Monitored Drift Tube Chambers (MDT) for the ATLAS muon spectrometer.

In the absence of a magnetic field any deviation of the sagitta mean from zero indicates a systematic bias of the measurement, e.g. caused by mis-aligned chambers. zero The comparison of the sagitta resolution provides a valuable test of the muon simulation and reconstruction algorithms. reference and in the MDT Chambers. the Cosmic Ray Test Facility in Garching, resolution in simulated and real
