Prospects of Measuring F₂ at High y and F_L with the ZEUS Detector — •Daniel Kollár — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, München, Germany

The ZEUS Collaboration is investigating the structure of the proton by studying deep inelastic scattering events at the HERA ep collider. The structure functions F₂ and xF₃ have been measured over a wide range of kinematic space and yield detailed information on the quark densities. The structure function F_L is much more sensitive to the gluon density but has not yet been measured. Running at two (or more) different beam energies is necessary to realize such a measurement. Of particular importance is the ability to measure differential cross sections at the highest possible values of y (low electron energies).

The feasibility study of such measurements at high y with the ZEUS detector will be presented together with its implications on an F_L measurement.
