Simulation of very high-energy events for the Pierre Auger Observatory — •Viviana Scherini, Heiko Geenen, Karl-Heinz Kampert, Lorenzo Perrone, and Simon Robbins — Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Fachbereich C Physik, 42119 Wuppertal

The Pierre Auger Observatory combines two independent detection techniques, fluorescence and surface water-Cherenkov, allowing the reconstruction of extensive air showers with two complementary measurements. The hybrid detector has been designed in order to cover a large dynamic signal range extending its aperture to showers induced by very high-energy cosmic rays of energies up to 1021 eV and above. A detailed study of the fluorescence detector response to very high-energy showers is done in order to check its performances and improve the capability of the reconstruction at the highest energies.
