The dissociative recombination (DR) of H3+ is one of the most important processes in the chemical networks of cold interstellar clouds, and still subject to a long-standing controversy regarding its rate coefficient at Kelvin temperatures.

We have performed a high resolution H3+ DR measurement at the TSR storage ring, employing a cryogenic 22-pole ion trap at 13 K to precool the ions by buffer gas collisions to their two lowest rotational states. To lower the transversal electron temperature to 6 K and improve the resolution, a new photocathode electron source in the TSR electron target has been applied. Furthermore first evidence for a nuclear spin effect in the DR process was found by using para-H2 gas in the ion source.
