Octupole vibrations in rare-earth nuclei — •Marc André Büssing, Michael Elvers, Janis Endres, Jens Hasper, and Andreas Zilges — Institut für Kernphysik, Universität zu Köln, D-50823 Köln

The systematics of octupole vibrations in the region of rare-earth nuclei are still not well understood.

First test measurements have been carried out at the FN Tandem accelerator of the University of Cologne. The gamma-ray spectroscopy was performed at the highly-efficient HORUS spectrometer which consists of 16 High-Purity Germanium detectors. The nucleus 158Dy has been investigated via the reactions 156Gd(α,2n) and 149Sm(12C,3n), furthermore the nucleus 154Dy was studied via the reaction 144Nd(14N,4n). In addition measurements with the (p,p) reaction were carried out on the nuclei 142Nd and 172Yb.

First results of these measurements are shown in the context of existing data for this mass region.
