Recent PHENIX results on neutral pion production in d+Au collisions at sNN= 200 GeV and on direct photons in Cu+Cu at sNN= 62.4 GeV — •Sebastian Klamor and Michael Kowalik — Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Institut für Kernphysik

At RHIC, a suppression of particles with high pT in Au+Au collisions compared to peripheral collisions and to expectations from p+p results has been observed. These effects are expected to originate from energy loss of hard scattered partons in a hot and dense medium. To study possible initial state effects that can influence particle production, d+Au collisions are analysed. Furthermore the possibility of gluon saturation effects influencing parton distributions at very low x in the nucleon can be explored. Another probe from the reaction zone are direct photons which are not influenced by strong interacting matter. They provide a test for the scaling hypothesis for heavy ion collisions with the number of binary nucleon nucleon collisions. We will discuss recent results from the PHENIX experiment of the analysis of direct photons in Cu+Cu at √sNN= 62.4 GeV and of the analysis of π0 at √sNN= 200 GeV in d+Au (RHIC run 2008).
