Commissioning of a Compton Polarimeter for Studies of Radiation from Strong Acceleration* — •Christian Lang1, Peter G. Ultra-strong fields of high power, short-pulse lasers will grant experimental access to radiation components from strong accelerated electrons. Amongst them range the Unruh effect, resulting in the emission of entangled photon parts, as well as classical (linear) Larmor radiation and photons from radiation damping processes [1].

Identification of these γ radiation components is envisaged using a 2D segmented Germanium polarimeter, allowing to identify entangled Unruh photon pairs via the polarization sensitivity of Compton scattering. The novel polarimeter consists of a 20 mm thick planar Ge crystal, segmented into 64 strips (1 mm width) on either side. Each strip is individually read out by a spectroscopy electronics chain. The typical resolution per strip is ≈ 2 keV at 60 keV photon energy. Results of the commissioning as well as simulated polarization sensitivity studies will be presented. Experiments at the MPQ laser facility will start soon, first aiming at the classical Larmor radiation components.
