Studies of Gaseous Tracking Detectors for Applications at FAIR and COSY-Jülich — •Valeriy Serdyuk1,2, Wilhelm Erven1, Pawel Kulessa3, Henner Ohm1, Krzysztof Pysz3, Peter Wintz1, and Peter Wüstner11Forschungszentrum Jülich — 2JINR Dubna — 3IFJ PAN, Krakow

Gaseous tracking detectors play a key role in existing and planned hadron and particle physics experiments. A versatile setup of such detectors is used for optimizing the performance of existing trackers (ANKE@COSY, WASA@COSY) and for developing new concepts (PANDA@FAIR). The setup consists of an array of PANDA-type straw chambers and a hybrid detector with a drift gap followed by a GEM amplification stage and a stack of planar drift chambers. Additional scintillators give time reference signals. Data are read out with 160 and 250 MHz flash ADCs and with F1-TDCs. The setup will be described and results will be presented with emphasis on energy loss and cluster formation along particle tracks. Data analysis in terms of particle identification based on dE/dx will be discussed.
