The GERDA experiment aims to search for the neutrinoless double beta decay of 76Ge by using high purity germanium detectors enriched in 76Ge. The background suppression in the GERDA experiment can be achieved by analyzing the time-development of the detector signals. To investigate the pulse shape discrimination capabilities of Broad Energy Germanium (BEGe) detectors, a complete simulation of the signal formation and evolution was developed. The results of the simulations will be presented and compared with measurements. The characteristic shapes of the BEGe detector signals and their dependence of the interaction position will be discussed.
