Study of Zbb, Z→ µ+µ production with the CMS detector — •Natalie Heracleous and Adrian Perieanu — I. Physikalisches Institut Ib, RWTH-Aachen, Germany

The cross section for production of Z bosons with two associated b-jets, and Z decaying to leptons, can be an early measurement with the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This process is a Standard Model process which has to be measured and it is expected to be seen for the first time at the LHC. It is also an irreducible background to the MSSM Higgs boson (bbh/H/A) discovery channel. Therefore, it is essential that all properties of the final state of this process are well understood. The possibility of measuring this process and its backgrounds from data is studied. The study of Z→ µ+µ decay mode and of two different final topologies has been performed. In the first case we require only one b-tagged jet while in the second case we require two b-tagged jets. The main backgrounds considered here are the tt, the Zcc and Zqq where q=u, d, s.
