Dielectron SUSY search in ATLAS — •Tuan Vu Anh, Volker Buescher, and Marc Hohlfeld — Institut fuer Physik, Johannes Gutenberg Universitaet Mainz

Supersymmetry is one of the two principal physics programs of the LHC, beside the Higgs searches. Despite of the usually small branching ratio, any lepton presence in the supersymmetry final state always reduces significantly the large hadronic background at the LHC. Leptons can originate from decays of gauginos and sleptons, which in turn can be produced directly and/or via squarks and gluinos. This talk presents a supersymmetry search with two electrons in the final state with the first 10 (100) pb−1 of data that will be collected by the ATLAS collaboration.

The first part of the talk will adress the natural question of determining the probability of each possible electron background to satisfy the electron identification cuts. The second part presents a crucial ingredient towards a full dielectron supersymmetry analysis, the reconstruction of all inclusive dielectron sources, and in particular, that of the Drell-Yan spectrum. The data-driven method allows to verify the Standard Model background prediction to the supersymmetry signal.
