Stellarator Type Magnetostatic Storage Ring — •Martin Droba, Ninad Joshi, Oliver Meusel, and Ulrich Ratzinger — Institut für Angewandte Physik, Goethe Universität, Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, Germany

A stellarator-type storage ring for multi- Ampere proton and ion beams with energies in the range of 100 AkeV to 1 AMeV was designed with interesting features for nuclear astrophysics experiments. The main idea is to use longitudinal magnetic fields for beam confinement with high transversal momentum acceptance. Stable beam transport in opposite directions is possible through the same aperture with two crossing points along the structure. Elsewhere the beams are separated by the RxB drift motion in curved sections. Beam transport experiments along a r.t. magnet system with 30 degree toroids were performed within the framework of this proposed storage ring. The test setup aims on building a system with two beam lines for testing multi-turn beam injection schemes. The primary beam line for the experiments was installed and successfully commisssioned in 2009. A movable probe for ion beam detection was installed. This modular technique allows online diagnostic of the ion beam along the beam path. This ring is typically suited for experiments in atomic and nuclear astrophysics.
